Gate Safety Week was set up by the DHF (Door and Hardware Federation) Powered Gate Group to create awareness surrounding the installation and maintenance of powered gates. The aim of Gate Safety Week is to draw attention to specific areas such as poor installation and/or maintenance.

The message of this years campaign is ‘Safe Gates Save Lives’ and is aimed not only the general public/end user of automated gate systems, but also at professional installers and other industry contacts. The main aim of the campaign is to educate everyone on the dangers of poorly installed/maintained systems and how to spot and then report them.

As professionals within the industry, we have a duty of care and a legal responsibility in reference to all of the gates that we fit, maintain and service, and much of our work over the last year has been acting on necessary safety upgrades required, and effecting them swiftly and correctly. We think it is important that we show support to Gate Safety Week and assist the DHF in spreading the word and help with their goals by:

– Encouraging users/owners to have their systems checked by professionals such as ourselves so that any unsatisfactory findings can be reported and rectified

– Educating our customers in the correct specification, supply, installation and operation/maintenance of powered gates.

– Ensure that all of our staff understand our liabilities and that we remain aware that the safety of powered gates is required by law.

Powered/Automated gates are becoming more and more popular in both the residential and commercial market. Unfortunately, as an industry we face issues with poorly installed/maintained gates leading to accidents and fatalities. Many installers and end users are not aware of their obligations and we recommend ensuring any professional company you use is a member of the DHF powered gate group and is also a registered gate safe installer.
